Information about the listening training at Mozart-Brain-Lab institute

Shortly before the turn of the millennium, Jozef Vervoort and his family started the conversion of the newly acquired building on Stationsstraat, right across the train station. Dedicated in particular to research around the listening therapy according to Professor Tomatis, the new center also houses a small listening center for children, adolescents and adults. The space for children and adolescents can accommodate a maximum of 22 therapy places per listening group. At the same time, parents can listen in a separate room (... places). The MBL center is also particularly recommended for adults seeking tranquility and rest.
Naturally, listening is the main focus at Mozart-Brain-Lab, but customers are also offered therapeutic units on the Giger device and/or on a device specifically dedicated to the development of balance, as well as, during the "active phase", sessions at the microphone in a soundproof booth.
Each listening session lasts 90 minutes and is followed by a pause, also 90 minutes, during which physical activity is highly recommended, especially for children. Walks in the beautiful city center of Sint-Truiden are just as suitable as visits to various child-friendly places in the small town.
At mealtimes, you can either walk to the Atlantis Cafeteria or request a shuttle bus ride from the MBL office.
Listening sessions at the Mozart-Brain-Lab start systematically 10 minutes earlier than at the Atlantis Institute:

Three teammates are present seven days a week and are responsible for performing listening tests, setting up equipment and supervising listening sessions. The treatment begins with a listening test. From there, therapists establish a treatment protocol with appropriate settings. On the first day, a child gets nine 30-mn units of music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This first phase is called “sonic return”. In successive half-hour increments, the filtering of the music moves gradually to higher frequencies, until in the end, the original music is no longer perceptible.
At this point, Mozart music is replaced with the mother’s voice. Beforehand, the biological mother’s voice is recorded as she reads a story at the microphone for 30 mn, preferably a passage from the "Little Prince". During the treatment, the mother voice track will alternate with music tracks. The mother voice has been strongly filtered to favor high frequencies, so the child cannot immediately detect the language or the source of the recording.
After about four days, a new listening test is performed to evaluate the effects of the listening therapy. Test interpretation is conducted either by Jozef Vervoort, his daughter Astrid, or therapists Dirk Demeulenaere and Jacob Hertigers, in the course of a consultation with the client. Adults usually get a new test after 72 listening units. These tests are carried out by the center’s teammates at appropriately scheduled times.
The first listening phase usually lasts 12 days, followed by a four-to-six week break. When the treatment resumes, the duration of consecutive sessions is now reduced to five days. Only the results of listening tests make it possible to evaluate the total length of the therapy.
Listening sessions at Mozart-Brain-Lab take place on the first floor of the center. On the ground floor you will find the office of Didier Punie, chief commercial officer and account manager at MBL, and in charge of organizing training, conferences, sales, and shipping of the special equipment.
The MBL Center can also accommodate overnight guests: the structure has 7 apartments, of which four are priced at € 65 per night, and three at € 75 per night. A studio is also available for 70 € per night. For overnight stays, the center of Atlantis also offers various rooms and apartments.
