Research and development
At MBL one
never rests.
True to the
manager slogan “if you don't go forwards you go backwards”, the MBL team does not rest on its
laurels, but is dedicated to research,
try and improve in all fields of the therapy.
An important step forward is the development of the “Brain Activator”, successor of the legendary “Electronic Ear” of Prof. Tomatis. But at MBL other fields are also continuously
improved, e.g. the recordings of sounds for application in the therapy.
And there
is research: In a study published in the Journal of Neurotherapy, the results
of the APP have been proven through an accompanying examination with Brain
Mappings. In 2010, MBL published
together with the Italian, Carmela Stillitano, a research study in which the at
MBL trained therapist proved that the voice of a subject had strongly improved
after an intensive 14-days training with
the Brain Activator. At the same time, the results of the therapy were proven
visually; respective pictures were created during the treatment. Currently, Jozef Vervoort and his team are
dedicated to a fundamental study concerning possible consequences of
complications during pregnancy and birth. By means of a questionnaire one tries
to see into possible correlations of learning-, development- and behavioural
disorders and complications during pregnancy and birth.
The Electronic
Ear is the central point of the therapy. Particular filters change the sound
message and allow an adapted listening training for the defective ear. The
muscles of the middle ear are trained, so that it learns to listen
spontaneously and automatically to the sound source. The right and left
hemisphere are addressed individually, at the same time the right ear is
trained to be the controlling ear.
The sound
material consists of music from Mozart (hence the term “Mozart therapy”),
Gregorian chants and texts recorded by the biological mother.
The first
Electronic Ear was developed by Prof. Tomatis and his team in Paris.
Mozart-Brain-Lab in Sint-Truiden continues the development. Since late summer
2002 they use the newly developed “Brain Activator” in the therapy. As sound
source mostly electronic devices that can play media with high resolution (48 MHz
and 24 bit) are being used.
