Coherence between ear and listening

At the Mozart-Brain-Lab (MBL) four Tomatis therapists / docents have united in order to continue the scientific work on the Listening therapy, which had been conducted by professor Alfred Tomatis in the last 50 years of the previous century. These are Jozef Vervoort, the founder of Atlantis and MBL, Prof. Dr. Martien de Voigt, Dutch physicist, Dr. Jozef van Deun, Belgium neurologist and Dr. Wolfram Linn, German physician. The basis and starting point of this research is the extensive archive of the work by prof. Tomatis integrated at MBL with the experiences with over 10.000 patients in more than 30 years. A focus of the research will be on the application of EEG-Brain-Mapping and its value for the Tomatis therapy.

The name Brain-Mapping stems from the investigation of the electrical brain activity, analyzed in the form of a "landscape of the brain" and thus representing as a functional map of the brain. For the investigation the patient receives a cap on the head with electrodes, whereby a gel assures good electrical contact with the skin. The procedure is completely pain free. The first measurement is carried out with the patient resting and subsequently an auditory or optical stimulus is given. The investigation is objective, thus independent of the cooperation of the patient. The result indicates rather well the nature of the disorder in the brain. This facilitates a better indication of the patient and yields additional information for the therapy. Repetition of these investigations are well suited to document the changes in the brain functions during the Tomatis therapy.

The neurologist Dr. Jozef van Deun is the specialist for the Brain Mappings. He has joined the team at St-Truiden from December 2004 on. He was born in Limburg, Belgium, and received for a large part his training in Heidelberg. In this way he was educated in two languages; German and Flemish. Moreover he also speaks Italian, French and Greece. Dr van Deun starts with a consult with (the parents of) the patient, whether a brain map makes sense. After the investigation the results are communicated with (the parents of) the patient in detail.
